A day in my life living in NYC! π₯¨ππ
Follow along for a day in my life, including a trip to the Sleeping Beauties exhibit at The Met, trying the viral croissant at Lafayette Bakery, and every little moment in between
I had the perfect little day this past week filled with all kinds of New York things, and it just felt right to document it somewhere! So, here we go, a day in my life living in New York Cityβ
9:30 AM- Soul Cycle
Rise n shine! First things first, getting a workout in. My neighborhood is so peaceful in the mornings, so I enjoyed my stroll there while listening to my daylist (apparently Iβm a huge oldies fan according to Spotify πΊπ»).
This Soul Cycle class was Taylor Swift vs. Sabrina Carpenter themed which put me in a fantastic mood for the rest of the day. (Also, I may or may not have recently decided to go to the Eras Tour in Amsterdam this upcoming weekend π€) This was such a good class, and I left ready to tackle the day!
10:27 AM- Lafayette Bakery
My Soul Cycle location happens to be right next door to the famous Lafayette Bakery. Usually, the line is wrapped around the block to try one of their viral croissants, however, as with most things in NYC, if you go on a weekday, thereβs usually little to no line. I had yet to try their pastries, so when I saw no line, I decided to treat myself (balance, right?). My order consisted of one chocolate supreme croissant and a maple crumb cake. It might become a regular occurrence for me, because they were both delicious!!
11:30 AM- Chores (Boooo!)
After my delicious breakfast, I got some things done around my apartment. I love listening to podcasts while doing chores (it makes it much more bearable) and todayβs selection was Found Objects- a history podcast. As you probably know, Iβm a sucker for history fun facts and this podcast does a great job of making history entertaining and fun to learn about. Todayβs episode was on the Titanicβs richest couple (I canβt be the only one obsessed with anything Titanic related).
To Do List:
Make Bed
Shower/ Get Ready
Unload Dishwasher
Vacuum/ Tidy Up
1:00 PM- Head to the Upper East Side
I have been wanting to see the new Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion exhibit at The Met since it opened, but didnβt really want to go on a weekend (super long lines + just too big of crowds for my liking). Since I was free this Monday, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to go! My friends and I joke that the UES is long distance because it takes around 45 minutes- 1 hour to get there from downtown, however I think itβs worth it. Itβs quite peaceful up there and I get some time to read on the commute.
2:00 PM- Arrive at The Met
The Met has βpay what you wishβ tickets for NY residents, so me and my utility bill headed to the ticket line to show proof of residency. After purchasing a ticket, I joined the virtual queue for the Sleeping Beauties exhibit (make sure you do this as early as possible!!). The wait time was around 80-100 minutes when I joined, so I took the time to wander around, look at other new exhibits, grab lunch, and read a bit more.
3:43 PM- Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion
Iβve been to the past 4 Met Gala exhibits, and in my opinion, this one is the most unique out of the ones I have seen. This exhibit is so interactive; there are sights, smells, sounds, and textures everywhere. To me, this exhibit focused heavily on the science behind the fashion, even describing what ingredients were in the scented fibers present in some of the fashion. I was instantly transported back to my Textiles class from college and all of the labs where we tested fabrics and fibers. This was such a unique experience, and I think taking your time to read and interact with everything displayed really adds to the experience.
5:00 PM- Closing Time at The Met
The Met closes at 5:00 on Mondays, which is right when I happened to leave the exhibit. I headed out and sat on the front steps to enjoy the street performers and do some people watching.
5:40- Walk through Central Park
The weather this day was absolutely perfect, so I took the scenic route home and walked through Central Park, stopping at The Boathouse, Bethesdaβs Terrace/ Fountain, Central Park Amphitheater, and finishing with a stroll through The Mall.
6:30 PM- Head Home for a Cozy Night
After my stroll, I headed to the subway to get back downtown. I stopped at my corner grocery store to grab a few things and then picked up a few packages from the mailbox. Afterwards, it was time to shower (it wouldnβt be summer in NYC if you didnβt shower multiple times a day), get in my cozies, cook up some homemade mac and cheese for dinner, and turn on one of my favorite movies, Bride Wars.
Thatβs a wrap on a day in my life living in NYC! It still feels surreal that I get to call this city home, but Iβm thankful for it every day. Thanks for reading and Iβll see you next time (probably for an Eras Tour recap π€)!
xx
