spend the week with me in Louisiana! ⚜️
a digital diary of a week spent with family in Louisiana
Hi! I’ll be honest— I had zero plans on writing about my trip to Louisiana, however my scheduled three day trip there quickly ended up being a solid six days. I originally planned to make a quick trip to Louisiana for my grandmother’s celebration of life, but after getting there, decided to stay an extra few days to soak up as much family time as possible. The week was filled with so many memories that I couldn’t help but document it somewhere.
Here’s a little glimpse of my favorite things from the week 📸
The food… duh 🦐
My entire family is from Louisiana (and one of my grandmothers even spoke Cajun French), so I’ve grown up with cajun/ creole cooking my entire life. I’m no chef, but I do use cajun seasoning on literally every single thing I cook (try it on avocado toast and mac & cheese, you’ll thank me later). My family is filled with incredible cooks, so it’s no surprise that one of my favorite things about visiting LA is easily all the food I consume while there! Nowhere else does the cajun classics like Louisiana!

Tunk’s on Kincaid Lake 🚤
My mom and aunt grew up eating at Tunk’s and water skiing on Kincaid Lake, and somehow my brother and I had yet to see it in person over the years! We spent one night at the lake eating at Tunk’s and I can confirm the food is quite delicious and the views are immaculate. One of my favorite things about visiting family is hearing stories about how they grew up and stories from before my time, so I was loving getting to see all the places I had heard about IRL.

Celebration of Life ❣️💐
My grandmother’s Celebration of Life was so beautiful and I think she would’ve really loved it. It was so lovely being able to hear stories from her friends and family that I had never heard before. I was also able to visit with so many cousins and extended family members that I hadn't seen in years, which I’m always grateful for.
The flowers for the service were absolutely beautiful and we even made mini vases after the service and delivered them to my grandmother’s friends and her roommate at the rehabilitation center.

Gardening 👩🏻🌾
My grandpa was a professional gardener, taking up a large portion of the backyard with his produce. We’re talking satsuma trees, carrots, tomatoes, herbs, and just about everything in between.
My aunt has taken over gardening duties and grows peppers, tomatoes, and basil. One of the things I look forward to most is having a garden of my own one day (living in the city isn’t quite the ideal environment for a garden 🤔). I have a feeling that gardening will kickstart my urge to learn how to cook too!

All the moments in between 🫶🏼
Going through old pictures, getting caught in the rain, picking up pecans, swinging on the porch, DQ blizzards, the new F1 movie, stopping by my favorite shops, trying on my grandmother’s wedding dress, driving around town listening to my mom and aunt point out homes, spending time with family, and more!

After spending multiple summers up north, I’ve grown to appreciate summers down south a little bit more. There’s nothing better than family time and moments to slow down and appreciate the smaller things in life (which, in my opinion, actually add up to be much more important than the big things) ❤️.

Caro 💌
